Why would new tires cause my tire pressure monitoring system to fail?

2008 corolla s with 36K on the odometer. Just bought new bfgoodrich tires and had them installed at costco. Now the tire pressure monitoring system light is illuminated on the dash. Why would that happen? What should I do?
