NRL: Darren Lockyer to retire at end of season?

Darren Lockyer was probably one of the greatest fullbacks of the modern era, up there with Tim Brasher, David Peachey, Gary Belcher and Garry Jack, but I simply don't rate him after the switch to pivot. Don't get me wrong, it solved a problem and worked well at a club level for the Broncos, but Queensland would have had a whole bunch of Origin whitewashes had they went with a halves pairing of Scott Prince and Johnathon Thurston from 2004 onwards. We all saw what happened when that dynamic duo were paired in Game 2 of 2008. 30-0 anyone? Then in the next Origin, Scott Prince breaks his arm and is out for the entire match and Queensland still won, which goes to show just how much players like Thurston and Cameron Smith carried Lockyer at that level.
