When does my landlord need to give back my security dep?

Usually when a tenant moves out, there should be a walk through with the landlord. If that is unable to happen, usually the landlord has to contact the tenant within 30 days after moving out with regards to the list of damages and the amount he is going to keep. If nothing is kept, then the security deposit must be returned within this same time frame. Check in the state that you are from, but if they do not contact you within this 30 days, you might be able to get either double or triple the amount of the deposit.
